Roadmap to Success 2016 Essay Contest

Overview: Respond to 1 of the following 2 prompts:

1) The year is now 2026. Looking back on the last 10 years, write a personal narrative describing who you have become as a person through your education & career journey.

2) Take this character strength survey: https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/account/register

Based on your results, answer the following 3 questions in essay form.

  • What 3 strengths are you most proud of or do you hope to develop?
  • How do you think your strengths will assist you in making decisions around college/career?
  • How do you think your strengths will allow you to give back to your community now and in the future?

Rules:

  • Participants must be students in the Roadmap to Success program, 1 entry per student
  • Participants must provide: First and Last Name, School, Teacher Name, Grade Level
  • Participants must use Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or similar word processing software
  • All essays must be no more than 250 words (1 page), size 12 font, double spaced
  • Entries must be submitted to info@educationopensdoors.org by Friday, April 29, 2016 or handed in to your Roadmap to Success teacher
    • The EOD judges will score the essays on 6 areas (see attached rubric):
      • Content & Ideas
      • Organization
      • Voice
      • Word Choice
      • Sentence Fluency
      • Conventions (spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.)

  • We will post the winning essays on EOD Roadmap social media and our website www.educationopensdoors.org by May 15th!
  • The author of the top essay will receive a fully stocked $50 swag bag from the college of your choice!
