Success Story

June Teacher of the Month!

We have another teacher of the month to celebrate! This month we highlight and honor Ms. Jeannie Walker. Ms. Walker is an AVID Coordinator and Elective Teacher at H. Grady Spruce High School .

We are honoring Ms. Walker because she is passionate, reliable, and hardworking. She is truly invested in the future of her students and is always willing to provide feedback to improve the Roadmap to Success program. Overall, she is a joy to work with!

What are your high school & college Alma Mater(s)?

George Washington Carver, Waco, Texas,

Paul Quinn College , Waco, Texas,

and Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas.

What were your areas of study?

 Education / Masters of Education / Reading Specialist

What is your favorite high school or college memory?

My favorite high school memory is being a part of the George Washington Carver High School Band.  I played the clarinet. We were the best in town.

Why did you choose to work in education?

I knew when I was in third grade that I wanted to be a teacher.  I had a teacher, Mrs. Hill, who was so caring and understanding.  She made sure that all of her students were successful in all of their subjects.  I wanted to be just like her!

What is your favorite quote?

“Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it!”  Maya Angelou

What is your favorite activity/lesson in the Roadmap to Success program?

My favorite lesson activity was Grade Point Average and Class Rank.  The students were really interested and excited about knowing how to calculate their own GPA so they didn’t have to wait on report cards.  They were very competitive in keeping the highest class rank.
